     engagement ring cast?

My girlfriend has 2 rings that her grandmother owned when she was alive. They are very special to her, and she would love for one to serve as her engagement ring. I have 2 questions. The rings may or may not be white gold. One has a stamp of 18k the other 24k. Does this mean that they are made of gold or gold plated? My other question is, if they are only gold plated, is it possible to cast the ring in real gold? Thanks!

I would take these rings to a local jeweler to have them appraised. Then, the jeweler can tell you how to proceed.
