I am wondering how I am supposed to wear the engagement ring on the wedding day. I have been told various things from don't wear it at all, to wear it on the left hand and put the wedding band on behind it and change the order later. I also know you can wear the engagement ring on the right hand during the ceremony and put it on behind the band afterwards. What is the traditional way to approach this matter? What would be the best etiquette? Thank you!

Actually, I did read nearly every post on this thread before I wrote my question, and while there were some other people who were asking if what they wanted was all right, no one asked or had any comments on what the most traditional and best etiquette was for the engagement ring during the ceremony - at least not on the rings thread. But thanks anyway - I hope you all have a lovely vacation.

Try the search posts link at the top of the page and search for finger ring, all words. I found some answers there. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

The way one wears the engagement ring on the wedding day, if at all, is purely personal preference. There is no 'traditional' rule that says you must do one thing over another. Therefore, do what you believe is best for you given the dynamics of your wedding day.

I completely agree.
Many times these rings are soddered together also. So, you wouldn't have your engagement ring for a week before the wedding. But, the main issue is that the wedding ring would be placed on your finger before the engagement ring during the wedding. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
