     engagement ring sizing and fitting

I have a three stone engagement ring, when I first got the jeweler said a 5 1/2 would be too small so I got it sized to a 5 3/4. Well after having it back for months now, it still feels somewhat loose to me? It is July now (when fingers are supposed to be the biggest)! So I went back by the jeweler and had someone else look at my ring and size me again, he said I should go to a 5 1/2 and it would not be too small?!? Question is, my ring is only tight (sometimes) when I first wake up in the morning, I never have to "work" to get it off and the ring moves from side to side most of the time!! Should I keep it the 5 3/4 or size it to 5 1/2?? How should it fit??

Also should I have the ring and the band put together permanently before or right after the wedding?

Hi, Heather,

As fas as sizing, it sounds to me like a 5 1/2 would fit you better. But sizing is one of those questions that is difficult to determine 100% without seeing you in person.

I usually recommend to my customers that they go to two different jewelers to get professionally measured. In your case, having your ring available will make it even easier, as a professional jeweler should be able to tell you on the spot if you need to go down in size a 1/4 size.

As an online jeweler, we get frequent customers who get mis-sized by their local jewelers, sometimes even more than a 1/4 size, as in your case. As you mentioned, factors such as the weather and other factors can play a role when getting measured.
