getting a wedding ring

My girlfriend showed me a picture of an eternity ring. Now do I get that and a wedding ring, and a band, or do I just get the eternity ring? and when you get engaged do you buy a separate ring for the wedding? How many rings do you have to buy?

Dear Panicked Groom,

Today, it is best to choose these rings together, because she may not like your choice.

She would typically wear the two rings, engagement and wedding ring. An eternity ring is generally worn much later for those bench mark anniversaries.
