     heirloom engagement ring

I was given my Grandmother's wedding ring. She had her 50th anniversary diamond earrings mounted on either side of her wedding diamond so she could actually see them. I want to present this as an engagement ring to my love. Is this O.K.?

This is not only "OK" but very sweet and sentimental. Hopefully your girlfriend will feel the same. You know her personality and only you can know if she will appreciate the sentiment and the value this gift has to you. I would assume, since you've asked her to marry you, that she is a wonderful person, sharing your same feelings and sentiments regarding family values and such. Presenting her with the ring, while giving her the story behind it and why you'd like her to have this ring would be key.

Best of luck...
