     mothers 1st wedding band

My mom and dad have been married 30yrs. My mom's first band was small and plain. My parents have had a great marriage. With that said, I am wondering if it would be okay for me to ask her for her first band. I though her ring might bring us good life-vibes. I want to ask her if I can have her first band, melt it down with my wedding band and create a personalized wedding band to match my engagement ring. Is that too much? Should I ask?

Dear Tommysbride,

The thought is wonderful, but asking may place your mother in a difficult position. If she really wants to keep it for sentimental reasons, she may feel guilty saying no. So, perhaps you could hint at how lucky the ring may be or something to that affect. Perhaps an indirect route may prompt her to consider it.

Best wishes,
