I absolutely love my engagement ring and want to take good care of it. I have been warned about not showering with it on or doing the dishes. It may sound silly, but I have also heard not to sleep with it on either. I want to keep it safe but it seems like I run a greater risk by taking it on and off three times a day than actually leaving it on. Should I listen? Thanks a bunch :)

Re: [susieq] proper care of engagement ring

If this advice came from anyone other than the jeweler who sold you the ring I would ignore it.
Generally speaking, diamonds are one of the hardest stones and can only be scratched by another diamond, so don't store the ring with another diamond. You should check the ring from time to time for loose or bent prongs and have them repaired by a professional jeweler immediately so you don't loose the stone.
Since you haven't mentioned the metal used to make your setting I cannot provide you with cleaning and care instructions for the setting. Please ask your jeweler for proper care of your engagement ring. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
