     two engagement rings

Hi,

I am contemplating proposing to my girlfriend, and I have asked in the past whether she wants me to go out and get a ring on my own or get one together. She wants to do it together, but when I propose, I still want to give her a ring, though not the final engagement ring. So, what type of ring is appropriate for this "temporary" engagement ring? Any ring I like or does it need to have a small diamond or fit some other etiquette?

Thanks,

Jay

Dear Jay,

You are very romantic. She is a lucky lady.

Typically this would be the engagement ring. But, if you want to ask her in the traditional manner and yet choose the ring later together, any ring you choose would be fine. You can simply tell her that the ring is a 'stand-in' for the real thing.

Best wishes,

You don't necessarily have to present a ring when you propose. I single red rose, the symbol of romantic love, presented as you are down on one knee could be wonderful.
