Two years ago, my b/f and I lived far away from each other and I decided to buy us rings to prove my love for him and promise we'd be together one day. I paid over $100 for these sterling silver rings, and they turn black. When I called the craftsman, he said it's because I got them made out of a cheaper sterling silver.
Now we're together and we're engaged and I found some beautiful 14k white gold rings with a pattern similar to the ones I bought. Together, they would cost $1500. He thinks that's pricey, but I'm afraid of getting rings that will turn black, or green, or just not be well made.
Is there an average price people pay for their wedding bands so that I may compare?
1500.00 is too much for anything but a "designer " name 14K white gold wedding band set. Buy from a reputable jeweler to insure quality. 14K white gold bands should run $275.00- $575.00 per ring depending on the weight of the gold and the complexity of the design.
