which finger and who buys the man's engagement ring?
I proposed to my girl friend and gave her an engagement ring. But I did not buy an engagement ring for myself. What is the tradition? Should I have bought my engagement ring also? Which finger should we wear our engagement rings and how about the wedding rings, which finger? as far as I know it is the left hand, but it seems different countries have different traditions, we are not from US originally...

Here in the states the man doesn't typically have an engagement ring.

Before my fiance and I got engaged, I purchased promise rings for both of us. I just bought plain gold wedding bands and gave him his for Valentine's Day. He wore it on his right hand ring finger. We are getting married this year, and he still wears his promise ring. I wear my engagement ring on my left hand ring finger.
I guess it's a matter of personal preference if you want one or not.
