My wedding is going to be the weekend before Christmas! We are planning a winter wonderland theme for the reception, but not sure what to do about food. We are planning a light buffet. At first we were going to do all finger foods, but then thought maybe some type of soup and sandwiches - anyone have suggestions about what type of soup? Pro's / con's to this idea? Too strange? Traditionally we have very cold Decembers and lots of snow.

Thank you in advance for any help.

If the reception is going to be the standard four hours I would suggest something a bit more substantial than just hordeurves. Soup is difficult for a buffet since guests have to carry it back to their seats. There are many other choices for a cold weather buffet that could be filling as well as elegant. Carving stations with roasted meats are always invoke the feeling of "holiday", but ask your caterer for their suggestions.

A cute Christmas theme wedding favor could be a gingerbreadman and woman decorated in the traditional xmas colors and personalized with your names and date, then wrapped in clear cellophane with some fancy ribbon which can also be personalized.
