Hello,

I am getting married on 777 and my fiance and I wanted to incorporate this into our theme for our wedding. Our colors are pink and silver. I thought as a theme we could do something heavenly (like cupids or something b/c of the number 7). My fiance thought about doing some kind of casino theme.

Some of interests are to play putt, putt golf, driving range, and batting cages.

We already have our reception hall and it is huge. It looks like two big rooms connected, one side is going to be tables and the other is going to be the dance floor with a lot of extra room and so we wanted to put something in the dancing room to fill up all of the empty space.

I am really having trouble thinking of a theme....we have ideas, but just dont know how to put them together. I like the heavenly theme, casino and sports idea, but do not know how to incorporate all of these ideas into my wedding. Also, does having games at the reception make the reception seem tacky? Any suggestions would be very helpful! []

I really cannot comment on how these themes would work. But, I can comment on being a good host. Consider your guests and what you think they may or may not find appropriate and will enjoy. If most of your guests are very young, they may find a sport theme appropriate. If not...

Plus, there are some people who find gamling in bad taste. So, consider all of the angles before making your final decision.

You know yourselves and guests better than we do. It's not so much a question of "Is it tacky", as it is the coordination and assumed participation of the guests during the event.

We recently did a family reunion, where there was quite a mixture of ages....from 3 to 84. We did musical chairs for the kids with a fast beat song that the adults stood and clapped in time. We do that to help expend the kids energy so the adults will have the dance floor to themselves later.

Their theme was music from the 50's and 60's, and they had decorated with old vinyl records suspended from long threaded rods that allowed the rod to go through the record hole, then a bolt was threaded just beneath the record, so the records were about 4 inches a part, and spun freely when touched.

They had made 8 foot tall milkshake decorations, a jukebox, and had large pictures of flashy classic cars decorating the walls. The middle of the ballroom was filled with pink and black helium balloons that touched the ceiling, but each had colorful streamers that hung down about 7 foot from the dance floor.

Instead of a Jukebox, you could possibly rent a slot machine and any money placed inside goes to the bride and groom! You can do a search for slot machine rental for parties, and possibly find one in your area.

I'm updating my previous reply, as my suggestion of renting a slot machine was not the best in the world. [tongue] Knowing that you were wanting a casino theme, it just popped out without proper thought.

It really is not considered appropriate to have a slot machine where the bride and groom will reap the rewards. That's why we don't suggest the money dance. As a wise wedding expert reminded me, "No host should expect guests to ever stick their hands into their pockets for anything."

Keep in mind that some people find any reference to gambling offensive, and although it is your special day, being considerate and courteous of other people's feelings should be uppermost in your minds and hearts.
