Hello all,

I am getting married very soon, and we are reaching crunch time. We have the list, and it is time to start putting together tables and seating arrangements. When we do the seating cards, should we do one card per couple/family i.e. "Mr. and Mrs. John Smith at Table 5" or "Smith Family", OR should it be "Mrs. Smith at Table 5" and then a separate card saying "Mr. Smith at Table 5".

Obviously there are issues with lumping in names such as Smith Family if there are multiple Smiths, but the question is more on the difference between using a separate card for every guest, or putting people who are obviously together on one card...

Dear Pam,

You could list all family members on the same card or list all names on a master list directing all guests to the list. When they arrive at the table they've been assigned to, you could have a card for each member of the family.

What we have planned is to put all of our seating cards at the entrance to the reception location. The guests will look for "their" card and it will tell them what table to go to. From there, they can select their own seat from what's available. My question is more specific to those cards, in that, can I put down a couple on a single card seated together, or should they each get their own individual card, despite it being obvious that they are expected to sit together.

Hello PAMatt, there are two different cards mentioned in Rebeccas response and I wanted to add to that. The escort card is placed on a table outside the reception room. This would or could Mr. and Mrs. John Robert Smith Table #__ or The John Robert Smith Family Table #__. Once they get to the table the place cards show them which seat to sit in. If you are only interested in placing the family at the table in any order they wish, you can skip the place card and just use all escort cards. I hope this helps to clarify. Be sure to be specific on the escort card names because of duplications within the family names. If you have 2 guests not married but a couple you would use a seperate card for each.
