My friend is getting married and would like her guests to give her gift cards to one of two stores that she has chosen. We are aware that she should not include this information on the invitation itself. However, most guests do use computers and have no way of accessing one. How does she go about asking for Gift Cards to Store 1 or Store 2? Is there some way that she can ask for what she really wants?

Thanks for your help and we look forward to your response.

Dear Friend,

It isn't polite to request only gift cards or cash even though there are a number of regions where cash is 'the' wedding gift. In fact, requesting gifts is like saying that you are only inviting people to your wedding because you want more stuff. So, this should not be an emphasis.

Preferences for gift cards could be on gift registries. She should also register for other items so it does not appear as if she just wants cash (gift cards are much like cash). It is best to register for cards in varying amounts to suit everyone's budget.

This information is spread by word of mouth. Most people know to call stores to find out if a bride is registered there. In fact, that is what I do. So, most people should figure out where she is registered on their own.

Best wishes,
