For an afternoon wedding in October in California will I as the mother of the groom be out of place if I wear a beaded top with a jacket and flowing pants in a chifon type fabric? The color is light blue. Or do I have to wear a more conservative suit? The MOB is wearing a tea lenght burgundy dress. The wedding is at a country club.

Dear MOG,
As a MOG you are supposed to coordinate with the MOB and never out dress her. The beading would place you into an evening formal range, which would out-shine the bride's mother. Your outfit should blend and contrast hers in color, style, and length. Her's is tea length, which means semi-formal. Your outfit should be also, without out-shining hers.
Best wishes,
