Does any one have recommendation on destination wedding photographers in the Cancun or riviera maya area?
We are getting married at the spa palace this coming summer, but the management does not allow cancun or mexico based photographers at the resort, they did offer their own in house photographer but we don't feel comfortable with this idea....
thanks

We don't make recommendations for specific local services but you should consider using their house photographer.
Let's see what our resident photography expert has to say.

Thanks for answering so fast,
We already saw few samples of their in house photographer and don't want to hire him...if you guys don't recommend local's, perhaps any traveling photographer ?
Thank you so much

Try looking here:
Wedding photographers and photography
Once you find some who are willing to travel then go ahead and interview them. Remember that you'll probably have to pay for their travel expenses so this option may not be for the budget conscience.
Good Luck!

I'm sorry but that's not the sort of service we offer. This isn't a typical bridal chat. We have a team of experts who answer specific wedding related questions.
Besides, referrals from someone you don't know aren't always the best. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. [;)] It would be best for you to make a list of photographers willing to travel and then interview them as you would any other service provider. You'll know who you like - just as you knew you didn't care for the on staff photographer.
Sorry we couldn't be of more help.

The idea of using any type of photographer is that you will receive the photos and/or negatives of your dreams. If you use the in-house photographer, most likely they will want to supply you with your images in digital format (cheaper for them).
This is fine, as long as the images are taken at a high enough resolution and file size to ensure good photographic prints later. Don't accept jpg images, as these have been compressed to save space and sometimes are not that good when printing larger than 5x7 prints. Ask for the files to be given to you as uncompressed TIF or largest JPG (with very little image compression).
Some destination photographers are truly comparable to local, as local photographers charge from $1,500 to $5,000 for a photo shoot. A good portion of some photographer's pricing comes from their print packages. Perhaps you could find a photographer willing to travel and just shoot the photos, and you can have the prints made later at a photo lab. This might cost you $2,500 to $3,500, but you would be able to have the photographer that you want...which is really important.
If the in-house photographer doesn't suit you and you can't afford to hire a "destination" photographer, you might consider having a family member or friend take your photographs. If you don't have a good enough camera, you can always rent a nice digital one for the duration. Just be sure to shoot the images at the highest resolution possible, which means you'll have to spend some money on memory cards for the camera.
