I have a strange question to ask. In many stores they sell Bride and Groom Champagne Glasses and Cake Cutting tools. Are we expected to purchase these items for our wedding reception or are basic versions normally provided by the Reception Hall? My fiance and I do not like champagne and besides that, I can't see spending $40 on two glasses that we will only drink from one time. I feel the same way about the Cake tools. We cut one piece of the cake and then the rest is done by the Reception Hall. I guess these are mainly for souvineer purposes, but for us, these things will probably just sit in a closet and be forgotten. Could you please let me know if these are truly important items?

If the site where you are having your reception is making the cake for you, or has the ability to bake cakes, then they may provide the cake cutting set. Or, if you are getting your cake from a wedding cake baker, the shop may provide it for you. You'll need to ask. I think the cake knife is important if you are taking photos of cutting the cake because you want it to look nice.

As for the glasses, that is your choice. They too might be provided by the reception site. Since you don't like champagne, you could always ask to be served something else. Or, you can choose not to have champagne flutes at all. Again, it is your choice.

Cheers!
