Do His/Her Wedding Bands Need to Match?

My fiance believes that our wedding bands need to match. The problem is that I'd like her to have a nice band with channel set diamonds but I just want a simple gold band. They'd both be yellow gold but mine wodul not have diamonds. I'm just not a diamond kind of guy.

I fear that, just to match, she will SETTLE for a simple band.

Bottom line it for me ... is there a tradition that says that they MUST match?

Fortunately you both can be satisfied in that you can have matching rings with hers having diamonds and yours having no diamonds but a diamond cut design into your gold wedding band to match hers.
