Both my fiance and I are singers, so we are thinking about singing to each other in our wedding. We also have friends that we would like to sing: a soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. We have a found a few songs that we would like to have them sing. The songs range from solos to duets to even being one for all four of them. Although music is a HUGE part of our lives, we don't want our wedding to turn into a concert. [] So... how much is TOO much? Would it be too much if we had our song, plus 2 or 3 more??

Also, what order would everything go in if we had a lot of music in the ceremony?? I'm not sure if this is the right section to ask this question, but it goes along w/my first problem!! [] Any and ALL suggestions will be VERY helpful!! []

Dear So in Love: Remember the most important element in music planning is pacing. You're right, you don't want a concert. We'd advise that one or two songs during the ceremony would be plenty. During the reception, having your friends sing in different groups would be lovely, if the songs are appropriate and you space them throughout. Possibly having them fulfill a specific purpose might work well, such as having them sing for your first dance or as a family tribute. Your song plus two or three more we feel would be the most you should do. You can find out more about creating music programs with a book called "How To Set Your Wedding to Music".
