I am in TN and am attending a Catholic wedding at 2 PM with my husband, black tie optional. We already have a tux and now after reading some of the other posts I am afraid that is not appropriate. When I asked the bride about what he should wear she alluded that it should be black tie. I also need to know what to wear that would be appropriate.

Dear Black Tie,

You are correct. A tux is formal evening attire. So, a morning coat, which is also known as a cutaway would be very formal and not typically worn by guests. The groomsmen may though. A stroller is still formal and could be worn. But, again typically the guest would still wear a suit.

So, it is your husband's choice of wearing a suit, which is typical even for formal daytime weddings or the stroller.

You can wear a conservative cocktail dress, which is the little black dress or its equivalent.

Best wishes,
