What should I wear to a black tie, Jewish, 5pm hotel wedding in June in Boston? I have a long black dress (which I'd lighten up with a colored or metallic wrap) and a long lavender satiny dress. Not sure if lavender would be too light - I don't want to stand out at all, plus I think the black might look more chic. Or should I be thinking about a shorter dress?

And my date should wear a tux, right?

Yes, the black would probably be best. Although, the tux is supposed to be worn after six, it would be fine to wear it at this time.
