Hi! My cousin from Florida is getting married on December 4th. We are flying down from PA for the weekend. Her wedding is at 1pm and the reception is at 3pm. I have chosen a long black sleeveless dress to for me to wear. I bought my 8 month old daughter an adorable black jumper dress (has red & silver flowers on the front) with a white ruffled shirt to wear underneath...black shoes and white ruffled socks to match. I advised my husband that his black dress pants with his light grey and black pin striped shirt (& black tie) would look best...he looks really nice in this outfit. I like all of these outfits best, but my husband thinks I'm dressing everyone for a funeral, not a wedding. Our 3 yr old son is wearing blue and tan, so my husband thinks that our son will be the most appropiate dressed person there. I thought black was okay for weddings now...even afternoon weddings....am I wrong?

Thanks in advance for whatever advice or info you can give me.

Dear Wearing Black,

No, wearing black should be reserved for more formal affairs after 6 pm. However, many guests are now wearing black at any time. That doesn't mean that it is correct. Now if it is a black and white wedding, one where the bridal party are all in black and white, that would be entirely different.

Sincerely,
