Hello, I am 21 years old and my little sister is 20. We were both recently engaged and we were thinking about having a double wedding. Should we have my ceremony first and then my little sister's or should we have them at the same time? Our third sister is going to be in both of our bridal parties so I'm not really sure how to work this. We both want a pretty simple wedding but have different opinions on dresses. Do our dresses have to be mirror images of each other?? Any help would be appreciated!

Hello Zanyjanie,

Double weddings bring with them a whole new aspect and you are right your ceremony would be first because the benchmark is the older bride first. You can have entirely different attendants and your gown can be different from your sister's.

Dear Sis,

Yours could be unique and in any form you wish. However, most often you two would be standing together and married at the same time.

In my opinion, it may be best if you read a book on this. There is a chapter in the Bride's Book of Etiquette about double weddings and other special ways to wed. This may give you a better idea of how this could work.

The attire could be different, but should be of the same formality and is best when it is in the same color palette.

Best wishes,
