My husband and I are invited to a wedding at the end of May in Los Angeles at 5PM which indicates black tie preferred on invitation. I am wearing a black cocktail style dress which I would say is classy enough to wear with a tux. My husband would like to wear his black suit. I agree this is fine because I talked to a bridesmaid and she said the bride knows a lot of her family owns tuxes and wanted her guests to wear a tux if they owned one, but not feel obligated to go out and rent/buy one. The thing we disagree on is what necktie to wear. In the past, for formal events he has worn either a silver colored or black silk necktie. He received a Burburry designer tie as a gift that has sat in his closet for many months now. He doesn't wear suits to work, he thinks it is inappropriate to wear in a courtroom (he's a lawyer) and really hasn't had an occasion to wear it. I've attached a picture. Is this tie appropriate? Also, what colors or style is best for black suit at evening affair?
There really is no perfect color. It is more of a preference. However, I agree with you on this tie. I think this is more of a 'work' tie, especially since this is black tie preferred. They would prefer the tux. So, it is best to dress up the suit as much as possible.
My thought...stick with the ties he usually wears--the silver or black.
