Would it be acceptable to wear this black dress to a 5 pm wedding in Huntsville, AL in mid May? Please see the attached photo. Because I am quite tall, it hits me about 4 inches above the ankle. If it were shorter I think it would qualify as a "little black dress"/cocktail dress but I do not like wearing dresses any shorter than mid-calf/ankle length since my legs are not my best feature. I am from Southern California and most of the guests are from the Alabama area/East Coast. The groom has told me "it's not formal." If this dress is okay, how should I accessorize (in my wrap, shoes, bag, jewelry)? I don't want to be overdressed. The wedding will take place in a gazebo and the reception at a dance club. Thanks!

Dear Wedding Guest,

If this isn't formal, your dress would probably be too formal. The little black dress would most likely be the best choice, with attire you would wear to a very nice restaurant the next best.

If your legs aren't your best feature, how about a nice pant suit? There are so many wonderful choices these days.
