A month ago I was sent an Evite for a friend's Bachelorette Party, and we were told to respond if we intended to attend the day long event (day time - winery tour, then dinner and drinks out). I signed up for the whole day. A month later (2 weeks before the event) we have been told that the cost will be $105, not including the tasting fees. This is much higher than I expected, and I am concerned that this cost does not include what I will have to pay for dinner. Would it be inappropriate for me to back out of the day time activities and only attend the dinner/drink portion of the evening? I feel badly that someone will need to cover my portion of costs, but at the same time, I can't splurge $105 for a limo to drive me around all day.

Thank you.

Dear Too Expensive,

I'm not sure if it would be appropriate for you to ask to only attend the dinner. If you were invited to the entire event, then this is how the host has this arranged.

It is entirely appropriate to decline, but do so quickly. The host will need to recalculate everyone's total bill.

When you decline, you can state why. This way perhaps she will offer you the option of attending the dinner.

Best wishes,

But, if you already agreed, without knowing the cost, you may not be making any friends...
