I have just recently got engaged. We are starting to plan the wedding party, and I want my best friend to be the maid of honour. However my best friend is male, and I would like him on my side of the wedding party. Any suggestions on how to make this work?( walking down the asile at the church, first dance at reception etc.)

As per Jill Curtis of Family Onwards:

Your friend should walk behind you down the aisle which would give importance to his role. If you are having formal seating arrangements for a meal he would of course sit at the head table. First dance... with a close female friend of yours.

Dear Wants Male Bridesmaid,

Good for you. Men as a "Man of Honor," your honor attendant, is becoming quite common.

He would wear the same clothing as the other men in the wedding party with some distinction such a slightly different vest, boutonniere, or tie. If the other bridesmaids are being escorted, your man of honor could escort an unescorted female family member (aunt, grandmother). Or, the bridesmaids and he could walk the aisle alone.

He would not help you dress or attend an all female shower, that would be awkward. During the first dance, he would dance with all of the other attendants.

Make sure the photographer knows that he is your honor attendant and not an usher, so your pictures will reflect that.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

Sincerely,
