I have a wedding to go to this Saturday. It is at a lake house in Virginia. The wedding is at 5 pm, I am not sure how formal it is going to be. My guess is that it is not going to be that formal because they emailed their wedding invitations. I have a black halter top dress that is a little below knee length. Do you think this is too formal or should I get something more less formal? Or should I just email the bride and ask her how formal it is going to be or is that inappropriate? Please help.

Thanks

Dear hwh278,

If the material of the dress is high quality, you may be over-dressed. But, it is difficult to know without seeing it. Some of these are more casual.

There is nothing wrong with emailing her if you received your invitation via email.

Best wishes,
