My boyfriend and I are going to get engaged but we currently have a small problem... We do not want to be "engaged" without a ring but he has bad credit and it would take him almost the entire year before we get married to be able to buy the ring with cash... I suggested he use my credit but he still feels bad (says he doesn't feel like a man cause it would be my name on the credit). Could we use my mothers orgional engagment/wedding ring set as an egagement ring until he can afford the one he wants on his own? Also is there any problem with me putting the ring on my credit and him paying for it?

Regarding your situation, I think that perhaps you and your fiance ought to really focus more on whether the two of you can truly afford to be married at this point and time given what you have stated regarding finances, and less on how to finance an engagement ring.

We are honestly fine financially. he is an engineer and has just started his job that pay exceptionaly well for our area, but the only real problem with the ring is financing. He wants to get one that is fairly expensive for us and although he can afford it and could pay cash for it in about 6 or 7 months(or up to a year I am not sure of the price of the ring he has picked), he can't finance it due to "bad credit" from when he was in college( he doesn't have a bunch of debt he was just late on a lot of payments cause he didn't care). Neither one of us want to wait that long to get engaged since we are getting married next summer and want to start plans. I however have excellent credit and am helping him restore his(just a slow process). So my question was really would it be bad ettiquitte to use my mom's ring or bad luck?

You may use your mother's ring or your credit. But, beware. Unfortunately, relationships can cool and you may be stuck with the bill in the end. I know, not something any of us wish to consider. So, be very careful.
