If one of our fathers is a dentist, traditionally on a wedding invitation is ot worded Dr. Smith or is that typically reserved for an MD? At the stationery store where we plan to purchase our invitations she said typically only MD's are written as Dr. on the invitation.

As i understand it all titles should be used. Dr. isn't just a MD field. Anyone with the Dr. title has worked hard for that title and should be recognized with it.

Dear Doctor or Mr,

Very recently it has become proper to use the Dr. title for all who have earned a doctorate. A dentist is a doctor, but is usually referred to as Mike Smith, D.D.S. So, you may want to ask the father which way he would want to be addressed. It really is his choice.

Best wishes,
