My fiance and I don't have much money to spend on jewelry, and it's generally not too important to me. He gave me a pearl engagement ring, silver. It's very pretty and it definitely suits me as a nice ring, but as an engagement ring I would like to wear my grandmother's diamond--mostly for sentimental reasons, but also because I find I would like something a little fancier, since it's for the rest of my life. How can I approach this with my fiance? Would it even be appropriate? and perhaps I could wear the pearl ring on my right hand (because it is special to me), and grandma's on my left?

Dear Loves the Other Ring,
Rings are very personal and this is the very reason I always suggest for couples to choose the rings together.
I feel that it is best to just speak to him about this. His ring could just be your 'promise' ring and your grandmother's could be 'the' ring.
Best wishes,

Thanks so much for the advice. I talked to my fiance, and he actually thinks me wearing my grandmother's ring is a great idea. We save money on a wedding band, and also it's a way to include my grandmother in the ceremony and our lives together. Actually, he now wants his band to match mine.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
