My boyfriend's sister is getting married this weekend. I really want to wear one of my favorite dresses, but am afraid that it will be too dressy for the occasion. The wedding is at 4pm, and will be an outdoor event at Sea World. My dress is a full length black formal gown. The entire wedding party will be wearing tuxes, including my boyfriend, who will be acting as an usher for the wedding. I asked my boyfriend to ask his sister what the dress code was, and she said, "I want everyone to dress nice. Everyone thinks that just because I am having it at Sea World that they can wear shorts and flip flops." (That didn't really answer my question though... so I am still lost.) So, do you think my full length black formal dress is going to be too dressy? Or can I get away with wearing it?

Dear Steph,
Yes, it would be too dressy. Most likely you would appear as one of the bridal party, when you should be dressed as a guest. More than likely most of the guests will wear what they would to a nice restaurant. But, I would imagine that the bride would rather her guests wear cocktail attire, which is the little black dress or its equivalent. So, it is your choice which of these dress codes to follow.
Enjoy!
