My daughter is getting married in December and the ceremony and reception are taking place in the same room. The room is very rustic looking with timber beams and windows surrounding 3 sides. She does not want a Christmas theme but more just a winter one. What would you suggest for decorations for the ceremony site? Is there anything other than a decorated arbor? She has not chosen any special colors for the wedding. She is wearing ivory and the Bridesmaids are in black. I would appreciate your advice.

[;)]I might suggest whipping up the sparkle factor. One of my favorite looks is that of bare birch branches(or curly willow)with white lights. A pair of these at the doors and flanking the Bride and Groom during the ceremony can look simple, elegant and very romantic.
Look for tall glass cylinder vases, battery operated lights, order a couple bunches or 7 foot birch or curly willow and you will have a beautiful site. If there is table or altar of a sort decorate it with an assortment of floating or pillar candles in glass cylinders of various heights as well.
The same sort of look can be incorporated into the table centerpieces very easily. You might float a few open roses, orchids, gardenias or other elegant blooms among candles and various glass cylinders.
In a rustic setting you can't go wrong with candles...be sure to hit other key areas like the cake table, gift and placecard areas and so on.
Another great area to look into is the linens. Maybe a color would add a bit of wow. Something like a cappucino, soft sage or even something with a bit of a shimmer would probably be worth consideration. This is a new trend and there are great fun linen rentals being added to party and function services allover the place.
Hope some ideas are churning about now. (And if this doesn't sound like much write back with a bit more and I will lob back some other suggestions!) Take care and have fun planning!!!
