Good Morning,
I was married this past October. Since the wedding my gown has been in the garment bag hanging in my closet. I would like to preserve the gown so it doesn't yellow, but i'm not sure where to begin. I've heard to dry clean, not to dry clean, only dry clean if they are experienced, etc. How do I know if they are experienced? It seems they would say they are to get the business of cleaning a gown. I bought my dress at David's Bridal and I know they offer boxes to preserve the gown, but are those any good? My gown is the Oleg Cassini one with the colored embroidery. I don't want the colors to fade or bleed when cleaning. I've checked on the gown periodically and found no stains, and whatever little bit of sweat was on it has not yellowed, but I know the clock is ticking. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!
Brandi

I think it is best to go with a company that has lots of experience and has been in business a long time. The Wedding Gown Preservation Company has been cleaning gowns like yours since 1913. I would suspect that they have a great deal of success if they can stay in business for this amount of time. You can get more information on the gown preservation kit and also call the company 1-800-305-3108 to ask as many questions as you like in order to feel comfortable sending your gown in for cleaning and preserving.
If you're bringing your dress to a local dry cleaners please ask if they are specialists with experience in cleaning delicate items like wedding gowns and Christening outfits or if they will be sending your dress out to another facility to be cleaned.

Thanks for your help! There's so much conflicting advice. Being around since 1913 and recommended by you sounds great to me.
Have a great day!

Please call them to ask any specific questions and to make sure you feel totally comfortable. I am recommending the service since I have personally used it.
I had them clean my wedding dress which was sitting around for years in my closet, and my own Christening outfit too which had not been cleaned in (not telling how many) years!

I also recently sent my daughter's Communion dress to The Wedding Gown Preservation Company. They really do a great job of cleaning plus they're really nice to work with. Family owned and operated.

Having your gown cleaned and preserved is a great way to maintain it's beauty and value until you decide what you would like to do with it. Wedding Gown Preservation Company has certified cleaning technicians, and they are the best in the industry at knowing how to care for your gown. We are very familiar with the colored trim and the methods necessary to process it, while maintaining it's beauty. Since wedding gowns are all we do you can rest assured that they have the knowledge and experience you are looking for. While we work with gowns of all ages, we do recommend you have your gown cleaned and preserved as soon as possible. Having the gown cleaned and the preserved in the proper storage environment now, will prevent yellows stain from developing over time. Besides yellowing, leaving the gown hanging over time can create stress marks in the fabric. Should you have questions please feel free to call in to our customer service department at 1-800-305-3108. They are here Monday through Friday from 8am until 4:30pm EST. We look forward to help you preserve your gown and memories for the future!~

@kittykanzashi told me n Twitter that she bought a corset dress ( a 2 piece dress consisting of proper corset and dress) which can be worn again with other skirts or trousers. That's certainly another way to go.
