How to select a wedding officiant

Hello. I'm planning a wedding in September 2007 in West Virginia. I'm not sure how to pick an officiant. My fiance and I have been living together for 2 years, and we are not a member of any church. We do believe in God and we want to have a religious ceremony. We are in the process of building a new house, and we plan on having the ceremony on the sub floor of our basement. We'd like to find an officiant that will marry us there and allow us to use their church as a back up plan in case of rain. We are also on a tight budget. At this point in our lives we aren't ready to join a church. Can you please offer some advice on which domination would be best for us?

Unitarian Universalist ministers are open to all denominations. You can simply call your local UU Church. Usually, you will not be required to join their congregations. You can simply pay the minister's fee. There would be an additional charge for use of the church. Also, ask the friends you have made in the area if they know of anyone. Many folks come to me through word of mouth. You can also try googling non-denominational wedding officiants in your area and see what comes up. Some people have even searched the yellow pages.
I have no doubt you will find someone. It just takes a little research.
Blessings!
