My finance and I have decided to get married on Dec 29th while our families will be here for a family reunion. It's the third time for us both (I'm twice divorced - he's divorced once and widowed once). There seem to be a lot of us "third timers" coming to this website for guidance. All the books and magazines are for the young first-time brides. Isn't there a book or some guidelines for what's proper and what is not proper the third time around? It would be nice to have guidance on what we should do and what we shouldn't do. I'm 60 and he's 56 so we're not young. Our children are all in their 20's and 30's so the extended family advice doesn't apply. We've gotten all the smart alec remarks about why and what for! We want to have our wedding at home, outside on the dock by our lake. I have no idea where to start to plan for this event. We're not churchgoers so how do we find someone to officiate? I want to keep it simple - but then think about invitations, feeding guests, flowers or not, cake, etc. Us third timers need help!

Most of what you're asking would be the same for third time, second time and first time brides. Just use common sense and incorporate logical aspects of the wedding. For example, the garter, veil and pre-wedding parties will probably not make sense for you. Finding an officiant to perform a non-denominational ceremony is easy. Just do a search online. You can try Team Wedding in your state.
