Dear Experts,

Do you feel that an updo or a half-up, half-down look would go best with my gown (catalogue picture attached)? I am about 5'8", have an oval face and fairly long hair.

The experts in the veils section have recommended a more short, rigid veil. How would I then do the hair?

The dress laces up in back, which I associate with a more "renaissance" look, complementing the outdoor, historical destination venue we're marrying at. I can't help but think of flowing curls... but in July?

Thanks for the input.

Beautiful gown! I assume your hair is straight because you mention July as a problem for flowing curls? With all the texture along the bottom of your gown a full flowing hairstyle would balance best but you have to decide if the heat will be a problem. If you go with it up it still should be loose with lots of texture. Half up would also work as shown on the model. A short ridged veil would also balance the bottom of the gown and look contemporary. This gown can go either sexy contemporary or historical. The lace up the front would be more renaissance, up the back more modern. If you do the short wide veil have all of your hair up. You can try different ways at a trial run. time of day also comes into play with your decision. Day time hair down night time hair up. The ultimate decision will be either comfort based or fashion based. What is more important to you? Best wishes!

One of the most important questions I always ask my brides is: What are YOU most comfortable with? what do YOU want? If you are comfortable with a half up, half down-do, and this is the look you've been anticipating, then by all means this is the look you should have. By communicating with your stylist she/he should be able to create a classic and elegant look that coordinates well with the look of the dress.

(You have the perfect face shape that goes well with every type of hairstyle.)

It is your wedding day and you should have a style that makes you feel your best, whichever style that may be.

To clarify, my hair is wavy. My primary concern was the heat and humidity. The weather will be about 85 degrees. The wedding is in the evening but the ceremony will take place in a formal outdoors garden.

What sort of product would one normally use to control a down-do in these weather conditions?

Thanks again.

I would go with a half up style then and enhance your waves using any type of product for curly hair. The humidity will only enhance the look. Visit my web site's long curly styles and view lch 22 and 23 and 21. these are nice looks to consider. If you go to a salon they will know what products to use if not search on hairboutique.com as they have a lot of products and more product information.

Then a half up and half down-do will work beautifully for your hair type on a day like this.

When it comes to products, your stylist should be able to apply products that will enhance yet keep your curls active and fresh all day.

However, here is a beauty tip you can apply on the day of the wedding. The best way to keep curls fresh on a humid day would be to keep it as dry as possible. So to keep your hair from frizzing out towards the evening, I suggest you spray a very light-hold aerosol hair spray to your curls. Hair spray tends to be a little drying because of the alcohol in it so if you do this throughout the evening and minimize touching your hair as much as you possible you should be able to maintain fresh looking curls throughout.
