Recently my wife and I received a wedding announcement from an former girlfriend regarding the marriage of her only daughter which is to take place in the next few weeks. The announcement included information regarding where the couple is registered. There was no invitation to or mention of a reception. The bride's parents live in my state thougn not nearby. The wedding is taking place out of state. It is likely that a reception will be held in the city in my state where the bride and her parents reside.
My wife and I are completely perplexed as to why we would receive an announcement with wedding registry info prior to the wedding and at the same time not receive an invitation to a reception.
Over the years I have had little contact with this former girlfriend. However, she is still a person who I would consider to be a dear friend. At the same time I have had a considerable amount of contact with my former girlfriend's mother via Christmas cards, email, etc. I could easily contact her and inquire seeking clarification as to the above? Would this be appropriate? If so, what should I say?

Wedding announcement with no invitation included

I'm also perplexed. Announcements are to be sent after the wedding takes place, for the very reason mentioned here - too confusing for the recipient. Registry information is never included with either an invitation or an announcement and receiving an announcement does not obligate the recipient to send a gift. So, if it were me, I would send a card congratulating the couple - after the wedding.

Thank you so much for your prompt response. It sounds like I should assume that my not being invited was not a mistake.

From what you are describing it does not sound as if you are being invited. But, without actually seeing this "announcement" it's difficult to say with 100% certainty. It seems odd that you would receive this before the wedding though.
