We are having a hard time deciding how formal we want our invitations. I want to address the outer invitation envelope very formal, which includes the first name of the male and not a nickname even if no one calls him by his first name. I also want to include kids names using Master for the boys and Miss for the girls. I want to address the inner envelope to read everyone who is invited using the names we call them. My fiance thinks that is stupid, he thinks we should address them to the husband and wife and on the inside spell out who is invited. There are some example below. The wedding is going to be somewhat formal, not to the extent of guests in tuxes and evening gowns, but I want to set the mood. My fiance doesn't seem to think the wording on the outer envelope matters since it just gets thrown away.

My way outer envelope

Mr. and Mrs. Johnathan Smith

Miss Abigal Smith

Master Joesph Smith

My way inner envelop

John, Becky, Abby and Joe Smith

Fiances outer for same family

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smith

Fiances Inner envelope

Joe, Becky, Abby and Joe Smith

Dear Gorman,

Please read about proper invitation etiquette. There are examples for you.

We don't mention children on the outer envelope. Plus, the invitation is the first indication on the formality of your wedding. So, if you are not hosting a formal wedding, your invitations shouldn't be either.

Just mention the adults on the outer envelope and follow the guide in the article.

Best wishes,
