How do I make sure my guests know that they are welcome to bring a guest with them if I am not using two envelopes for my invitations? Usually the inner envelope is where you write the person's name that you are inviting. After their name you write "and guest". If I do not have an inner envelope do I write "and guest" on the outer envelope? I have included a small card that says "for additional information about the wedding please visit our website". Should I say something about inviting guests on this card maybe? What would be the best way to handle this problem?

Dear J,

We typically shy away from including any information about wedding websites in the wedding invitation because this site includes registry information. In fact, it has been a major taboo. Slowly, this is changing--slowly. So, if you must include this, bury your registration information somewhere that isn't obvious.

You could include 'and guest' on the outer envelope, but it is better to write it on an enclosure.

Best wishes,
