My boyfriend and I have been together for almost two years (anniversary is in Nov.). Almost a month ago, he told me that he wanted to get married Nov. 28, 2009, which is the year he decided and so I jokingly said the date and he said that he liked that idea. And that was that. So I told my mom that we tentatively set a date and well a little money saving has started and I've called a few places that I know I want to use. Well then he began talking about buying a new car, so I asked him if he was planning on buying me a ring. He just kind of looked shocked and said that he didn't really think about it. Then he said that he isn't ready to marry tomorrow, but knows he'll be ready in 2009. I am a little confused and frustrated. So I have since then stopped talking about the wedding and haven't done any more research.

Do you have any advice that can help me understand his reasoning as to why set a date when you aren't ready to marry tomorrow? Can he say he wants to marry me in 2009, but know he wouldn't want to marry tomorrow?
