different wedding favors for children?

We are planning a masquerade reception/wedding. We'd like to incorporate masks in some way. I thought that we could use masks as favors, placing one where each family member sits. However, there will be a great many children... and the masks we have in mind are expensive and not meant to be "played" with.

We considered getting more colorful(and consequently cheaper in both price and quality) masks with feathers for the children under 10 or so. We also considered ordering small mask barrettes for the young girls as well as providing face painting, and zorro masks for the boys. We didn't know if this was appropriate though...

Is it appropriate to get the children something else? I was wondering if you ladies here have any suggestions to alternatives? We also thought of getting a few masks for centerpieces on each table and merely having drawings to give them away at the end of the night but that would take a bit of fun out of the event itself.

Thank y'all (:

Some things to consider....

Using multi-color masks with ribbon attached to holders (sticks) that could be placed within a colorful vase in the centerpiece might be something for you to consider. In other words, the kind that you hold in front of your face, rather than placing on your face with the use of elastic.

Keep in mind that many people spend quite some time on their hair and makeup in preparation of a celebratory event. If you supply masks that have elastic attached for holding in place, you will ultimately have some people who won't want to wear it because it will mess up their hair or makeup. By providing both types of masks you will be graciously giving your guests a choice as to which type they would prefer.

Also, masks can leave an impression on the skin after wearing a short time. So, regarding photography at your wedding, will it matter to you or your guests that their images may be taken while they do not look their best?

Choosing a variation that is age-appropriate is certainly acceptable. It wouldn't be any fun for the kids if they couldn't play with their masks. Give them permission to be kids and get them something that they can use. Good idea.
