My reception site is 2-3blocks from our hotel. My parents think that we should get a block of rooms for out of town guests and for people who get intoxicated and can't drive. My mom says that we should have a vehicle, van or something that will drive people from the reception to the hotel because women will not want to walk that far in heels after drinking and in the cold weather (wedding in march).

Should I spend the money on a van that goes back and forth all night when there will only be 20-30 people at the maximum staying there (out of 225 guests)? I would rather spend the money somewhere else. Can't they walk?

Dear Tommysbride,

It is entirely your choice. But, transportation, especially when the reception site is not very far from the wedding site, is not usually an issue. It is a nice gesture to inform guests of transportation alternatives, such as taxi services, if they need them (intoxication).

For those who have it in their budget, providing transportation to hotels from the reception site is very a nice gesture--not something that most of us can do though.

Those from out of town or those who must drive a few hours would most probably need a room. It isn't necessary to pay for rooms for them, but it is a nice gesture to ask to reserve rooms for your guests. It is also very common to include a list, on an enclosure, of a few choices in your invitations.

Best wishes,
