I am a hindu in the process of planning my wedding to a muslim man and was wondering if anyone has ever combined the two ceremonies. His parents are very disapproving of our marriage and are actually not planning to attend at this point in time, but I am looking for suggestions for creating a ceremony that is not very religious per say, but mutually respectful and unique. I'm also looking for resources on wording the ceremony. Thanks for your suggestions.

Hindu-Muslim Wedding Ceremony
#2
Namaste! Yes, I have done Hindu/Muslim ceremonies where we celebrated elements of both traditions. It requires sensitivity and communication, but it is possible. You can choose to have a humanist ceremony and celebrate your cultures culturally, or you can choose to invoke God in a neutral unifying way. In both cases, the ceremonies are spiritual but not religious---focusing on love, marriage and the couple.
In my book, I've taken the Hindu and Muslim ceremonies and adapted the language so that it is appropriate for an interfaith assembly of people. You should also look at Sufism (the mystical sect of Islam) for some of the most beautiful, lyrical love poetry perfectly appropriate for a wedding.
I am so sorry about the situation with your parents. I have held many in my arms that have been in your situation. My heart goes out to you.
Wishing you peace.
