Hello,
We are planning a shower for early April at a bridesmaid's house and we have a very general theme of pink. We will probably stick to pink plates, cups, utensils, etc. But we wanted something a little extra to kind of accent the pink theme, perhaps for decorations, favors, games, etc.
The bride has always loved Disney's The Little Mermaid. However searches always seem to yield results for Ariel alone (or the whole cast of characters). We don't want it to look like a kid's party, so we'd like to stay away from a Disney theme, princess theme, or mermaid theme. (We also don't want a "beach" theme, although a good idea, because the bride's sister-in-law recently had a beach theme baby shower.)
Instead, we'd like to focus on Ariel and Eric, such as the "Kiss the Girl" scene in the boat, their wedding scene, etc. What is a good way to incorporate the "true love" and "happily ever after" aspects of The Little Mermaid in a classier/adult way without overdoing it? I know this is very specific, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello,
Sounds like a cute idea. I think going the extra mile to find matching cups, plates, etc. Is more than enough, for the sake of a color theme. How about limiting the cartoons for the cards, or a simple basket with a stuffed toy & DVD or book, from all of you as a tie in to the movie. Save the money you would have spent for a bigger group gift or put towards the food, and get an extra course.
Or a cute idea for decoration on the table, could be a simple glass vase filled with colored sand, colored pebbles (available at Bed Bath & Beyond), and flowers in pretty shades of aquatic blues . Maybe play a little game to see who gets to take it home as a prize. I did read a book about games to play at dinner parties. I think its available at barnes and nobles.
Have fun!
