My fiancé’s family is Irish along with my mother they are all protestant Christian. My father on the other hand is a Hindu. It’s very important to me that I incorporate these two wedding ceremonies in to one but I have no idea where to start. Any Ideas?

Two traditions, twice blessed!

I have had the privilege of performing many Irish Christian/Hindu wedding ceremonies. You may include a traditional Irish Wedding Blessing, the Celtic Handfasting, The Hindu Seven Steps, an exchange of rings as is Christian custom and an exchange of garlands as is Hindu custom. You can play sitar during the lighting of the unity candle and process to bag pipes. Their are so many wonderful options! You can carefully choose Christian and Hindu prayers and readings, adapting the language slightly so to be more inclusive. You may combine a Celtic prayer for peace along with a well-known Hindu mantra for peace. The key is to explain all that is being done so that everyone will understand the meaning behind the elements and rituals taking place. My book, Joining Hands and Hearts, Interfaith, Intercultural Wedding Celebrations can be your step-by-step guide in this.

An interfaith, intercultural ceremony done properly is often an enlightening, unifying experience for all.

Many heartfelt blessings!
Susanna
