My future mother-in-law would like her great-nephews, boys ages 3 and 5, to usher her to her seat. My fiancee and I do not think this is appropriate and would prefer her to be ushered by an adult. We suggested she be ushered by a groomsmen, or her husband, or even by my fiancee, the groom. We purposely chose to have no children in the wedding party as we have many young children in the family and did not want to show favoritism among them. Are we wrong to want an adult to usher her down the aisle?

No you are not wrong. In fact, the 3 year old is too young and may become scared. If you and your fiance agree on what you want, then you should proceed with your plans. And, I agree that having some but not all children involved may cause hurt feeling.

The couple chooses who escorts whom.

I don't have as big an issue with the kids escorting her down (she may actually make them feel more comfortable), but I do agree that it's the bride's decision. If you want escorted by an adult, she should oblige.
