RSVP Regrets Only on wedding invitation

My caterer suggested putting simply, "RSVP, regrets only" with a telephone number on the actual wedding invitation. Is this ok? He suggested this instead of the separate reply cards. We are having the reception to follow the ceremony at same location. I was told by my wedding coordinator that this was not proper to have the RSVP and telephone number printed directly on the invitation.

Dear Lilashjones,

An RSVP may be printed with an address on the invitations if these are also reception invitations, which it seems to be in your case. But, we don't list a phone number. If your wedding is very informal, it would be fine. I doubt that yours is informal if you have a caterer and a wedding coordinator though.

This used to be the norm before response cards. Guests knew how to write formal replies, but the art seems lost to most today.

Best wishes,

I agree that I would reserve this for only the most informal of weddings, and even then, only include it on a separate reception card.
