I have worked at my company for 5 years. Spent these past two years overseas in the UK office. There is a group of about 6 guys and 1 gal that I see often - we go out for drinks or dinner or whatever.

I am having a small ceremony (35 people) followed by the meal followed by an evening reception with DJ and finger buffet for about 60 people.

I want to invite this group to the evening reception, but I have never met their spouses. I dont want to have to invite people I dont know and will never see again. Is that rude? Some english wedding etiquette sites say I dont have to invite their spouses since I am inviting them as a group.

Any advice?

my advice to you, as a once uninvited spouse, yes!! please do invite the spouse! It may cause undo hard feelings on the part of the invited party. It would be better to not invite the co-worker if you don't want to invite an unknown spouse.

Dear Do I Invite,

Yes, unfortunately you do have to invite spouses and significant others if you know the person is involved in a relationship. It is very impolite to do otherwise.

Best wishes,
