Parents of the bride want to choose wedding venue

My daughter is engaged and living with her fiance in Atlanta. My husband and I live in the Washington DC area. They want the wedding in Savannah, about a two hour drive from his family. Our family lives in DC, NYC and north Alabama. For most of our relatives, Savannah would be about a 12 to 16 hour drive, and they would not be able to attend. This is especially true of elderly grandparents. We are most happy to pay for the reception, but would like it near us. We are also very willing to have their imput as to exact location, menu, attire, ceremony, etc. What is the etiquette on the choice of a wedding venue? Are we being unreasonable to request that it be near us? Thanks for your response.

Dear Neyman,
Since parents are no longer obligated to pay for any of the wedding and reception costs, they no longer have the "right" to plan. So, the couple chooses the venue and makes all the plans together. You have every right to hold onto your retirement funds. [:(] But, if you give them any contribution, it is a gift with no strings attached.
Best wishes,
